Bugatti: A private collection will hit auction block in August

A private collection of rare Bugatti cars will hit the auction block in August.
Among the highlights of Dr. Williamson's collection are a 1931 Bugatti Type 55 "Jean Bugatti Roadster," a road-going version of the Type 51 Grand Prix racer with styling inspired by Ettore's son Jean, and a 1928 Type 35B Grand Prix featuring a 2.3-liter, overhead cam supercharged eight-cylinder engine that was originally owned by champion driver Louis Chiron and raced throughout Europe. However by far the finest machine featured at Gooding & Company's auction will be a 1937 Type 57SC Atalante Coupe, a unique collaboration between Ettore and Jean featuring a groundbreaking design for its time. Many other significant vehicles will be hitting block as well, including a 1914 Peugeot created by Ettore early in his career and a 1941 Indy car built on a Bugatti Type 31 frame and suspension.
