VW, Audi: US plant to be decided in July

The future of an US plant for Audi and VW will be decided in July and you even might be able to see Porsche's from there. Stay tuned!
"We will put the issue of the U.S. plant to the supervisory board before the summer break in July," CEO Martin Winterkorn told the business daily in an article to be published on Tuesday.

Three U.S. states had been short-listed, the paper quoted Winterkorn as saying, namely Alabama, Tennessee and Michigan.

Handelsblatt quoted company sources as saying that Volkswagen could run the plant together with its major shareholder, Porsche (PSHG_p.DE: Quote, Profile, Research), marking the first time the two would cooperate in this way, making Porsche as well as Audi models.

"We are examining options whether we could produce the next Audi SUV (sports utility vehicle) generation together with our own vehicles. It would certainly be the more cost-efficient alternative compared to a separate Audi plant. Which is why I prefer it," Winterkorn said.
